Japan trip 2 Day 9 (Comiket)

Today was comiket, i left the hotel around 10:15. I didnt need to wait inline at comiket, but was walked through in this giant walking line full of hot sweaty people.

there was a massive ammount of people, no more than i expected but still a lot of people. It did overwhelm me because i dislike large crowds but i was ready for this.

I did a lot of walking and climbed a lot of stairs, when i got inside i was very excited. But that soon died down when there was not really any AC and it was hot and stuffy.

When we got to the Doujinshi halls i spend an hour looking for Saiyuki before i finally asked for directions, only to be told there wasnt any :(

So instead u brought tiger and bunny porn :P There was 4 different halls all for doujinshi circles. Then on a higher level there was all the actual traders but they didnt have Gaiden either (last comiket they did)

I did have fun at Comiket mind you even without the Saiyuki stuff and the heat. But i think it made me miss my friends, i had no one to point out things to, eg cosplayers. (i cant share them with u as we werent allowed to take photos.)

Ill be doing shopping tomorrow and going to Shibuya. Ill feel better after sleep, Im buggered.
Im feeling a little bit home / friend sick tonight. :(

Yeah it seemed some of weird that they didnt want to be photo graphed :s surely doing cosplay in this ridiculous heat has to have some benefits right?

Isnt that weird thou? in crowds feeling alone XD i mean its true it was just so crowded i felt very alone but yet there was so many like minded people around me :P i think if i spose a cent of japanese it might help hahaha.

I wonder how hard it is to live-stream from a hand-held device over a public wireless network or hotspot?

If I ever go touring I'll have to look that up before I leave.

Any geeks here know if its do-able without horrific hassle?

its easy enough if u have skype for example, but otherwise its a pain and my phones camera is at the back so i cant talk and show at the same time lolz.

Ah, well, your needs are probably about a year ahead of affordable technology. I understand the iPhone 4 is skype-worthy but still too expensive for mere mortals without a Sanbutsushin's gold-card.

The phone plans for the iPhone 4 here in the US are really expensive...the cheapest, domestic-coverage only, starts at $54 a month, and that gives you only 200MB of data service.

I don't want to know what international 'roaming charges' might be...

FWIW, I just admire you like mad and think you are the bravest thing for doing this trip on your own! I hate crowds in particular - I have never gone to any of the cons here because I haven't had anyone to go with, and couldn't fathom facing crowds by myself. Gives me the shivers, just thinking about it. So to me, for you to be doing it on your own, in a foreign country, is bloody amazing. A little home & friendsickness is to be expected, you are probably pooped - you've been going at it pretty hard every day, AND you were sick! Pamper yourself a little and relax as much as you can, ok?

Awww thanks (had to look up FWIW) Man the cons back home are small and shitty, my issue is that our cons are so behind now and have no good shopping so have stopped going unless friends drag me to then lolz but they always put them in silly places.

Well today is a shopping / exploration day :) its about finding the Mandrake again in Shibuya and buying saiyuki stuff. I also want to go the animate there.

I wish there was an easy way to find where the K books locations are but there isnt there is meant to be one in Akibahara that i didnt seen last time :( but Akibahara is for the next part in tokyo which is 6 days dedicated shopping :D

I don't think it is 'brave' to travel alone--at least not in a place like Japan. I did it in France.

The thing about traveling alone, even though you don't have someone to fan-girl with, you get to go where you want, when you want, change your schedule without warning, eat all the weird stuff that might scare your traveling companions, check out that sketchy-looking club, sit under a tree and do nothing for as long as you please, etc.

Traveling with friends is fun, but there's a freedom you get traveling alone that adds a different dimension to your trip.

I do speak French, and being able to speak and read the language makes a huge difference. I visited Germany as a day-trip with a French friend who also did not speak German, and even with two people it was very difficult.

My friend knew a little bit about German culture, so that helped out a bit in terms of finding restaurants etc. Ironically we had to rely upon my very minimal Russian skills to talk to the wait-staff. It was a sausage restaurant, so what we wound up doing was picking 3 sausages each from a tray of raw sausages, and paying a flat price. Since the restaurant was a small country restaurant, everyone in the place pretty much pulled their tables together and we all held a conversation that was basically a giant charades festival with a few very simple words exchanged, because of the language barrier. The food was good, we had fun, and the Germans got plastered.

I was on an commercial jet that lost its landing gear, and as a result have become quite phobic of flying, so I almost never travel except by car or train. So I'll probably never return to Europe, or visit Asia.

I am a very shy person, extremely introverted, and I had to travel alone on business trips when I was still working. There were some things about it I did enjoy, but there were many things about it I found pretty intimidating, or at least a little difficult. Don't get me wrong, I love being alone, most of the time I prefer it, but traveling alone, especially in a foreign, non-English speaking land, I would find a little frightening, and I admire your gumption. You go girl!
